Privacy: the teacher tools

This notice covers the free teacher tools at teachers.national5computing.co.uk. It is written for teachers, and for pupils who join a live quiz. The revision site itself has its own privacy notice.

Who we are

The tools are run by P Liddle, who runs National 5 Computing Science. Questions, or to use your rights: hello@national5computing.co.uk.

Starter questions, code stepper and SQL query builder

These run entirely in your browser. Nothing you type or choose is sent to us. Your browser remembers your text size and last starter choices on your own device.

The live quiz

While a game is running, our server holds:

Names are never shown on the board or on other pupils' screens. Everyone plays under their random name. A typed name appears in one place only: the results spreadsheet the teacher downloads at the end.

Nothing is saved. All of this is held in the server's memory, never written to a disk, a database or a log, and is gone when the teacher closes the game, after 45 minutes without activity, after 4 hours at most, or if the server restarts. There are no accounts and no cookies. To slow down anyone joining a game many times at once, the server also counts joins from each internet address for one minute, in memory only.

When a teacher uses names, their school decides to collect them and is in charge of that information (the controller); we hold it for the teacher only for as long as the game runs (as a processor). The downloaded spreadsheet is then the school's, on the teacher's own device, under the school's own data policies.

For teachers using names

Where it runs

On the same server as the revision site, in the UK or European Economic Area. We do not sell information, show adverts or use tracking of any kind.

Your rights

Because nothing from a live quiz is kept once the game ends, there is normally nothing for us to give back or delete afterwards. For a spreadsheet a teacher downloaded, ask the school. You can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk), but please talk to us first.
